"Lisandrea"
Lisa and her husband Tom are the delighted homeschooling parents of a five-year-old son and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and have been married for thirteen years. Lisandrea is a singer/songwriter who can frequently be found blogging in the wee hours.
She toured with the internationally acclaimed Continental Singers in 1991, got married in 1995, and competed as Mrs. Connecticut in the 1998 Mrs. America pageant. She was a candidate for a Master’s in Education degree at her husband’s alma mater, Regent University, until she left to raise a family. Tom graduated from Regent's School of Government in 2004 with a Masters in Public Administration.
Lisandrea has been with CBN for eight years, and serves now as features researcher and a devotional writer for The 700 Club. The Wentlands reside in Northern Virginia, where they are shopping for a publisher for their first book, “It’s Not Your Parent’s Marriage (Thank God!).”
What is the title of, and where can we find your blog?
I host three blogs: my main & most-frequently updated site is Modern Mom Musings. I also vent and confess my weakest moments on Maddening Mom Fusings. My husband and I have also worked together on a blog which our children can access, where we post kid-safe YouTube videos, called Tadpole Tom Tubings. I love that site, myself, because it takes me back to classics from my childhood, plus contemporary and humorous children's programming of all styles.
What is the topic or topics that you find yourself writing about the most?
I mainly focus in on homeschooling & raising children to authentically follow Christ. We take an eclectic homeschooling approach at this point--my son is only 5, and we are still beginners, but I love preserving our memories in the digital format of a blog. I plan to print yearbooks for the children annually from my entries on the blog. It is easy to get overwhelmed as a homeschooling parent, but a friend gave me the best advice: "Remember, you are not homeschooling a high schooler, now; you are homeschooling a 5-year-old. Take it one-year-at-a-time." She has 4 children and is far ahead of me on this journey, so I remind myself of her mentoring words frequently.
What or who prompted you to start blogging, and when did you start?
I started before my children were born, as a means for promoting my indie music CD, which I put out in late 2000. I posted music samples and the lyrics to those posted songs. When my son was born, I kept writing (including some children's songs). I started journaling at age 9, when my parents got divorced, so blogging was a natural outlet for me. I do tend to neglect the children's scrapbooks & my own leatherbound journal for blogging, but I work in phases, often taking a catch-up month for the children's journals (where I write to them about what I see emerging in their character, what is happening developmentally in their lives, and where I scrapbook our events and activities). Oh, yes, I am Type A.
Are there any other women that you've connected with through blogging?
Frankly, there are dozens!
I posted my blog address at Five Minutes for Mom and found dozens of other bloggers. One, a missionary in Mexico, checks in regularly and freely comments on my page. There are some amazing women in cyberspace who inspire my homeschooling processes every day--many are not Christians, but are dedicated and talented artists/craftsmen. I do not have many artists in my local social network, so finding them online has fed me in a fundamentally valuable way.
How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
I try to post only after the children are in bed, and after my work for CBN is done--that doesn't always leave as much time for blogging as quality can sometimes demand, but I have thoughts throughout a day, and will sometimes just start a draft with a few words mid-day to complete at night. I put at least an hour into each post, and typically edit it again & again for days (adding pictures, finding grammatical or structural errors). Like any writer or artist, I find it difficult to let go of one piece as "finished," and move on to the next, but my children are my greatest daily priority, so I have to let more go than I might really want to, when it comes to writing.
Are there any other websites or blogs that you write for?
I have been featured on cbn.com a number of times. I was a contributing devotional writer there for fifty days after 9-11, but most of those posts have been archived off-site now (they can still be found at my original blogsite). Still, there are several short essays on cbn.com that I have written from year 2000 to today.
When The Call was first emerging, I wrote for them. I write occasional reviews on epinions, as well, which is a paying gig...in pennies! I am also a toy reviewer for eBeanstalk (The "Motherboard" gets paid in toys!).
What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
More than anything, I love to embrace every day as a new opportunity to feed LIFE into my children. We live in one of the most amazing areas in the world, with access to the nation's capital and all the free resources available there. This is a perfect place to homeschool! We try to take long trail walks every week (sometimes daily), go to outdoor concerts, collect & observe nature, take full advantage of our local library (where I pay too many late fees), and splash in puddles after a good rain or play until we freeze when the snow falls.
What struggle if any have you experienced with keeping your blog up?
The addictive nature of writing has always been a struggle--how to know when to stop, and go to bed! I set a midnight curfew for myself, but do not always abide by that because of a lifetime struggle with insomnia. My night hours are so important to my spiritual growth, because I have solo time to process how I'm succeeding or failing in my most important job. When I worked in corporate America, I had quarterly reviews. As a mom, I only have self-reflection and the kind words of strangers or family.
Blogging is inherently more difficult to manage than journaling in a bedside book, because I feel a greater need to edit. BUT, I do benefit from the cathartic nature of the Mad Mom pages. When I learned to ski as a child, my father taught me that I should always learn from falling. I want others to feel encouraged by my own falls, that they, too should allow themselves grace as they try to work against the societal grain to teach their chidlren godly principals.
What are some of your favorite blogs?
Making Home is one of my all-time favorite Christian blogs.
Musings of the Dings also touches me with simple wisdom and a peaceful sense of what authentic Christian living looks like.
Kelly challenges me.

Can you leave us with a Bible verse that God has placed on your
heart?
"The Fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control. Against such things there is no law"
- Galatians 5:22, is the first verse my son memorized (at age 4), and I think it summarizes the goal of every Christian--to exhibit those fruits, so that others can come to know the Father!
Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
Live every day like you are dying! It will open your eyes to the miracles all around you, and help you be bold about Christ with your neighbors, friends, family and total strangers. Be grateful for the gifts you have; do not whine or complain, but give freely to others. This lifestyle is the walking out of our commitment to Love the Lord God with all of our hearts, minds and souls, and to Love Others as we love ourselves!

"Erin Straza"
Word enthusiast. Language lover. Punctuation activist.
Such descriptors are fitting for this Spotlight on Bloggers subject, Erin Straza. Erin’s zeal for all things wordy is only trumped by her passion for the unchanging Living Word. As a nonfiction writer, Erin most often pours her heart into articles penned from a fellow sojourner’s point of view. When speaking at events and retreats, she draws from her own experiences of failure and victory, sorrow and joy as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Her ardent desire is to see women dive deep into the things of God and to see God’s glory manifested in hearts progressively redeemed, restored, and rested by the Lord Jesus Christ.
Erin has enjoyed a variety of work in the field of marketing communications, including five years in corporate communications and five years in university teaching. The past few years have been dedicated to consulting work in freelance communications, including writing, proofreading, and editing. Her nonfiction writing pursuits consist of articles, Bible studies, and workshops. She counts her 16-year, refined-by-fire marriage to Mike as the greatest of God’s miracles and blessings.
How did you go about naming your blog, and where can we find it?
I’m not sure which was more taxing: naming my blog or submitting my first post! Of the two, naming my blog was most emotionally daunting because it felt so final, so permanent—it would remain in view long after that first post fell to the bottom of the bucket. As a creative writer, I felt great pressure to produce a short, snappy phrase that would summarize the general content of my yet-to-be-written posts. The name that finally stuck was Filling My Patch of Sky. It sums up my call to write for God’s glory in the space I’ve been allotted in life. You can visit my blog at erinstraza.wordpress.com.
What do you find yourself writing about most often?
The tagline on my blog is “musings on faith, language, and culture.” And that’s exactly what you’ll find! My love for words and language and grammar are regular topics, and I’ve just recently launched a regular discussion feature for writers called writers’ bloc. Most often, though, I write on the challenges I face in living a life worthy of the calling I’ve received in Christ Jesus. It is here that I wrestle out serious issues of my faith and discipleship, things like stewardship, materialism, apathy, and so on. Whatever the topic, my goal is to pour out whatever is on my brain and in my heart. I hope to do this with transparency, a bit of humor here and there, and integrity.
What prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
Last summer I attended my first writers’ conference (Write-to-Publish). One of the editors I met with challenged me to develop a blog as a central focus point for the various aspects of my ministry. (I found the editor’s reference to my “ministry” a bit of a stretch!) The blog world was not very familiar to me, so when I got home from the conference, I spent some time visiting aspiring and established writers’ blogs. The vast array of topics and styles was encouraging, but I labored over all the usual insecurities related to posting your life for the world to see. Ultimately, it seemed a blog would serve as a great place for me to “think aloud.” And I hoped that some people might stop by to listen, to comment, to challenge, and to connect. After receiving much encouragement from dear ones, I took the plunge in June 2007. How glad I am to have done so! I love having a place to hash out ideas, get feedback, and meet other writers and Jesus followers.
How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
Short Answer: Way too much!
Long Answer: Most of my post topics have been brewing on the back burner of my mind for several days or weeks before I develop them into a post. (Some topics I’ve obsessed about for years!) After brewing, I may spend an hour or so writing a post, reviewing it, and proofing it. I’m guessing most bloggers shoot off posts in just seconds flat, but I’m fairly pokey and also suffer from perfectionism when it comes to grammar and punctuation. (Yet I wouldn’t want any of my posts to undergo a professional proof!) The time I spend on each topic prevents me from posting more regularly, but my blog serves more as a writing outlet than a daily diary anyhow. My loose goal is to post one to three times a week.
What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
Much of my life is wrapped around words and ideas—reading, writing, thinking, speaking, proofreading, editing. My freelance work has connected me to people and places around Illinois and across the world (Switzerland, Hawaii, California). It’s exciting to serve people and organizations in a way that is such a joy to me and a benefit to them. My days consist of reading and writing and researching grammar mysteries—I never seem to grow weary of words!
Even my hobbies are word-based—I love crossword puzzles, and I tend to have about five books in my reading stack at any given time. In addition, I have been honored, over the past few years, to speak at various retreats and conferences and also to facilitate a women’s Bible study at my church. These extra activities are all interconnected—just varying outlets for the ideas that are always buzzing about my brain!
Although I’m not certain what God has for me in the future, a recent rewarding challenge has been writing magazine articles. This is the task my hands are set to for the time. I’m thrilled that two articles were accepted for publication in the past year, and I hope to have a few more completed and pitched for publication in the months ahead.
What struggle have you experienced with keeping your blog updated?
Transparency is a core value of mine. I want my life to be an open book that readily displays the presence of God. But sometimes, when I am in the midst of struggle and pain and confusion and the like, I avoid my blog because I am not feeling up for the exposure and not sure it’s honest to post while ignoring the elephant in the room. As the chaos settles (spiritually speaking), it’s easier to form my thoughts and write about my personal experiences, even the struggles. But in the midst of such refinement phases, I tend to back away from my blog for a few days.
And as much as I enjoy blogging, this tool must be secondary to all else—the Lord, my loved ones, my work, my writing. I struggle to keep my priorities straight anyhow, and the blog can be such a huge distraction (entertaining as it may be)! One thing I have to remind myself is that the Lord’s unchanging priorities override the blogging world’s social order—just because bloggers are “expected” to post daily doesn’t mean I have to. Quality over quantity is best for me. It’s a tenuous balance between doing this activity with excellence while also resting in God’s sovereignty over it all.
What are some of your favorite blogs?
I love professional blogs on language and writing as well as personal blogs on things of heart and soul and life and walking with God. One of my favorite language blogs is Everything Language and Grammar—it’s both humorous and educational. And one of my favorite personal blogs is Ann Kroeker’s—her writing style is inviting and warm, the content interesting and down-to-earth.
What Bible verse is God kneading into your heart?
James 4:8: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” There is so much truth packed into this one verse! I am warmed by the promise, challenged by the call. This piece of Scripture is being etched into my soul—I’m almost certain you’ll be hearing more from me on this!

"Abigail's Life Song"
Tamara was born and raised in Southern California. She loves to travel and has been to Jamaica, Egypt, Israel, Ireland and many of the states. Her love for photography started in High School and continued on throughout the years (you can view her photographer here). She met her love, Matthew in 1998 and they were married in September of 1999. Shortly after being married they moved to Colorado and in July of 2000 she gave birth to her 1st son, Jacob Daniel. Two years later, in July of 2002 she gave birth to her 2nd son, Joseph Charles and almost three years later she gave birth to Abigail Grace in March of 2005.
She was very busy being “mommy” to two rambunctious boys, but after Abigail was born her life changed in ways she never dreamt. Tamara grew up in a Christian home and learned of the love of God at a very young age, but it was not until Abigail that God would reveal His love for her in a mighty way. Sanctification comes with much trial and testing, and its beginning for Tamara was placed into her lap on March 8th, 2005 weighing in at 8lbs 12.4oz.
What is the title and theme of your blog?
The title of my blog is Abigail’s "Life Song"
The main purpose of my blog is to journal about my daughter Abigail and her Life Song. The lyrics are daily written... some are beautiful, some are sad, some are depressing and some are joyful! I write about the daily struggles that I face and the wonderful lessons learned. I love to post about daily trials that God in His infinite wisdom has sovereignly picked for my journey, in hopes to provide hope and encouragement to other mothers facing the same challenges or similar trials.
What prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
When Abigail was born I used to "blog" via e-mail for my family & friends out of state. I did not know about the blogging world back then. About a year ago I came across a blog site and thought; "Hey, I want to do that." I started and then quickly fizzled due to circumstances with my daughter. A good friend recently started to blog about her son's story and encouraged me to continue to get Abigail's story out there. I’m so glad I did! I began blogging in February of 2007.
Have you met other women through blogging?
Yes, the Lord has brought many women in my life through blogging. I have been so touched by their lives. Many of them have lost a child or have ones with disabilities. It is very encouraging to wake up in the morning and see that one has commented on a post I've written. It’s like getting a note of encouragement or laughter each day! You can start at one blog which leads to another and you realize there is a “sea” of women suffering and sharing their struggles and stories... We all touch one another & encourage one another in a very special way.
How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
This process usually begins in the wee hour of the mornings where I am half asleep and I begin thinking of all the moms that have come across my path and situations that I have had the previous day. Usually something comes to mind and I wake up, grab a cup of coffee, my books and bible and start blogging. This process can take just a few moments or a few hours, but all the same I absolutely love doing it!
Do you write for any other websites?
At this time I do not write for any other websites just for my own photography site and my sons blog site.
Do you have any other hobbies outside of blogging and photography?
Having a child with sever disabilities has kinda forced me into a necessary side hobby of nursing--if you can call nursing a hobby. Funny.... when I was 5 years old I would bandage up my baby dolls and tell everyone I was their nurse and pray I would be one when I grew-up. Now... that is the last thing I would want to do as a grown-up, but here I am... playing out in real life "nurse maid" to my very own real baby girl! Tell me God does not hear the prayers of His little ones!
Your photos are beautiful, can you tell us about your photography?
It's my one true passion. I have being doing this for about 7 years but have not had the opportunity to run with it. Taking care of Abigail requires much of my time and energy. Photography bloomed within me from watching my Dad while growing up. He always had paint, cameras, ink, brushes, canvas, chalk and sketch pads around as an outlet for his creative gene! Back then he taught at Biola University, Azusa Pacific, Citrus College and now he is an incredible artist and an art professor at Sacramento City College inspiring more young talent! I am blessed to be counted as one of the many that he has touched and inspired! Thank you Dad!
What struggles have you experienced with keeping your blog updated?
As mentioned before, Abigail had some medical issues this past year that prevented me from keeping up with her site. We lost nursing on top of it all and this really set me back. Abigail has to be constantly watched. She wants so badly to move and be a part of things but can not on her own. She desires constant attention, so doing anything away from her is difficult.

Can you leave us with a scripture that God has laid on your heart?
Isaiah 43:2
~ “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze, “ says the Lord.
Is there anything you'd like to add in closing?
I would like to leave with one of my postings, "Words Better Left Un-Spoken". There are so many out there that are hurting and so many that want to encourage so I pray this will help with those that desire nothing more than to encourage.
Enduring a trial for a little more than 3 years has opened many doors for words better left unspoken by those who only have my best interest in mind. These very sincere people want really nothing more than to somehow feel they can relate to the path I am walking. I have had many talks with family and close friends also enduring trials of various degrees that have all expressed at one time or another, the “sting” of words spoken to them from a sincere heart.
I want to be completely transparent and honest for those who want nothing more than to “relate” or “pass along encouraging words” so that you may peek inside this world, if not for just but a moment and hopefully see the impact your words of encouragement may have on a soul that is broken & tired.
Please know that it is with a sincere and fragile heart that I breach this topic as I try and share with you perspective from a different world. These words, “a different world” I choose to use because they best sum up where heavy laden trial goers feel they are when enduring such times. I’d like to tell a short story to provide a baseline for where I am going with all this.
Imagine just for a moment, Little Bo Peep walking into Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary with bible in hand desiring nothing more than to share the gospel and encouraging words with lost souls behind bars. She is given a visitors badge and walked down heavily secured halls until she reaches a room where behind a table sits a man with wrists and ankles bound in chains. His sleeves are rolled up revealing partial tattoos expressing pride and defiance. His face is aged and scared telling stories of a life battled with explosive anger, fear, regret, denial and depression. His eyes slant with jousting curiosity as he look’s upon Little Bo Peep with her bible in hand. He thinks to himself, “What in the world is she doing here?” Little Bo Peep’s heart is so tender and sweet and looks at this man with a deep desire to encourage with scripture and say comforting words like; “I understand what you must be going through”, “God never gives us more than we can handle”, “At least you have shelter and food.” She then opens her bible to offer scripture in hopes of providing him hope while he sits in utter despair. Instead of feeling comfort, he is angered as his brow furrows and his mouth tightens up. “How can this girl say she understands what I have and am going through? She has not walked down the road I have, nor lived a day, or even a minute for that matter in my shoes!” While she continues to read scripture and share stories of similar situations she has heard of or knows from a distant relative, he sits and grows in irritation and bewilderment as to why she continues. When she has finished she smiles sweetly, pats him on the shoulder and says she is praying for him and walks away. He is left feeling more frustration and thinking how blind she must be to think that she has made any impact on his life.
I hope that this short illustration offers an insightful perspective. Tired and broken hearts know the intent of kindness as you reach out to them. As mentioned in the illustration, please try and understand that sharing a similar sad story is not a source of encouragement to us nor is it uplifting! Cliché’s like, “God never gives us more than we can handle”... This Is Not Biblical! It is quite the contrary actually! God does allow for the un-thinkable, the un-do-able and the un-wanted all at the same time! All the while He stretches you so thin, you feel as though are no more as you hang on by your fingernails and feel as though you are drowning! Then, when you call upon Him... sometimes He is silent and you experience the depths of despair and at the same time know that He will not abandon nor forsaken us!
It is during these fluxes in the trial that we cling to the safety of our home. We pull the blinds down, turn off the ringers and muffle the dog and kids as a knock sounds at the front door. It is here that we reach out only to those we know have walked or are walking in the midst of a storm. Why, a common bond and nothing more. Not exact in trial, as God has given us each our own unique hand picked one, but a common bond does exists and provides comfort in only the way a suffering saint can offer. Crying is easier with another who suffers, allowing ourselves to laugh with another who suffers is easier because we know that it is not a sign of dismissing our trial nor does it say that we are all better now, but that it is a release, for but a moment with one that understands our sometimes demented humor. Confiding in another that suffers also offers a support that can not be described. There are so many emotions, feelings, thoughts and actions that we go through as we try and stay above the water that only a suffering saint once again can truly respond with, “I understand”.
I know your hearts ache for those close to you enduring storms of all kinds, so I wanted to offer a few important points to reflect on to prepare your hearts as you talk with them.
Words are wonderful, but please remember it is important to understand that you can not fix trials with them. Only God can provide what His child needs for their weary soul. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows”.
The simple words, “I love you”, “I am praying for you” or “I am so sorry, I know you’re hurting” offer so much more than you could imagine! Proverbs 15:23 “A man finds joy in giving an apt reply – and how good is a timely word!” Ecclesiastes 10:12 "Words from a wise man’s mouth are gracious, but a fool is consumed by his own lips.” Proverbs 16:24 "Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”
To Love a broken heart through their trial is following Galatians 6:2 “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Notice this verse does not contain a time limit!! Please be sensitive in that all grieve and handle hardships differently. Some bounce back quickly & others are slow to heal! Ask yourself if you can really commit to Galatians 6:2. With a death the 1st year is the hardest on the soul and every holiday makes it that much harder. Can you offer to commit to pray for them for a year? Remember to send a note in the mail, these are so uplifting and usually come at just the right time!
I feel as though I could go on and on, but do not want to overwhelm. It is my heart to give a brief insight into “a different world” of the suffering soul. I pray I have not offended any readers... this was not the purpose of this post. I also pray that if you are on the outside looking in, that this would be received well." Proverbs 27:17 says, “As Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." In Christ,

"Kaysie - Alabaster Box "
Even from her toddler years Kaysie has been captivated by Jesus and the Bible. She would often stand on the coffee table in the family room and "preach" to anyone who would listen. (Her sermons usually consisted of the word "Jesus" spoken in various tones.) Now at the age of 20 she has grown more passionate and more devoted to her Savior and is eager to share His grace and truth with the world. She is a budding writer who enjoys learning about this art and the effect it has on others. Above all she desires to follow and proclaim Jesus with each day she is given. (just maybe not on a coffee table)
What is the title of, and where can we find your blog?
My blog is called Alabaster Box
What do you find yourself writing about most often?
I enjoy writing about living the Christian life, my thoughts on Scripture, and anything I hope will encourage other ladies to love and know Jesus more.
What or who prompted you to start blogging, and when did you start?
Actually, before I even knew blogging existed, I longed to find and outlet on the internet to share and encourage others in God's Word. I wanted to "connect" with other Jesus followers around the globe and share encouragements that the Lord gives me. One day last year some friends gave me a link to their family blog where they post pictures and family happenings and I instantly thought, "Yes! I can use this blogging thing as a platform to speak to others about Jesus." The rest is history!
Are there any other women that you've connected with through blogging?
Oh yes! That has been an added blessing to this blogosphere! I have met girls from Uganda to England to right in my own state. That is the beauty of blogging, you never know how far you can reach.
Most of the time I either stumble across their blog or they come across mine and leave a comment. If comments continue we will either swap email addresses to get to know each other better or to pray specifically for needs. Sometimes people have questions and that opens communication.
How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
It varies for me. God can lay something on my heart and His Spirit gives me all the words I need immediately. However this is oftentimes not the case. Words are sometimes hard to pen down but that is when I rely more on His strength and wisdom. I also think about my future posts for a few days before I attempt to write them down. So the time could vary from a week to 20 minutes.
Are there any other websites or blogs that you write for?
Actually I have recently created a blog geared toward teenagers called Cross-eyed.I center heavily on the gospel and how we can apply the gospel to everyday life. This is something I am very passionate about. I believe we have confused the gospel to be only the "doorway" to salvation, when actually it is the very path we walk on for the rest of our lives as Christians. We need the gospel each day for all areas of life. I am very excited about it!
What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
I enjoy spending time with my family, being outside, and also having tea. I am a homeschool graduate and devote as much time as I can to Bible study. My younger sister and I also lead a girl's Bible study at our home every week. That is a great blessing and really fun.
What struggle if any have you experienced with keeping your blog up?
I tend to judge the quality of the post by how many comments there are, when in all honestly I really don't know how many people have read or been touched by what God has shown me. My blog may not be as popular as other's blogs, but that doesn't mean I don't have an impact. Your blog stats don't represent your impact.
What are some of your favorite blogs?
Oh my, this is hard! I will list some blogs I check regularly: Hope Road
Unfurling Flower
The Rebelution ... just to name a few!
Can you leave us with a Bible verse that God has placed on your heart?
Well sure! I have been studying in 1 Peter and have been blessed by this verse, "Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, so that you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord." (2:1-2) We have all tasted the Lord's kindness. In response we should long for His Word like a baby craves milk. It's the only way we can grow.
Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
I am so thankful for the God-given opportunity and freedom to blog about Jesus. I take blogging very seriously because I strive to present the gospel of Jesus Christ through my writings - which is the greatest and most amazing thing we could ever write about. I hope people can see Jesus through my life and words.

"Songs From My Journey "
Deb is first and foremost, a daughter of the King of kings, saved by the amazing mercy and grace of Jesus Christ! Second, she is the wife of a wonderful man--Brian, and happily celebrating twenty eight-years of marriage in July. They are the parents of seven 'children' ages thirty down to six. Four of their children came to them by adoption, through the foster care system in Manitoba, Canada. After nineteen years and over two hundred children, they recently retired from providing foster care, to focus on their three boys still at home. They have also been a home schooling family for as long as Deb can remember...actually about 21 years!
What is the title of, and where can we find your blog?
My first blog is called Songs From My Journey.
What do you find yourself writing about more often?
Most of my blog posts are devotional in nature and often include song lyrics or poetry that I've written, combined with a bit of a story or lesson the Lord has taught me. Sometimes I write about my family and things that are happening in my life or at our church. I try to always end my posts with a portion of scripture...sometimes several scriptures!
What prompted you to started blogging, and when did you launch your site?
I didn't set out to start a blog. My husband had been very busy working on a construction project at our church, and I found myself with a lot of spare time. One evening, as I was browsing the internet, I discovered blogs. I had heard the word 'blog' before, but I really had no idea what they were. But it didn't take me long to figure out that it was something I should try! That was March 9th, just a few months ago, and though I've been late on a couple of occasions, I've managed to make a post every day.
Have you met other women through blogging?
One of the first people I met through blogging was a wonderfully helpful lady named Cathy at Melodies and Hymnsongs,I discovered her by searching for blogs with common interests. Through Cathy I have met many more ladies, and I am truly thankful to her for all the blogging help she gave me in the beginning.
I should also mention Amy at Splitdecisionz. I learned so much from just reading her blog, but decided to have her do a blog make over for my birthday. She did a great job!
How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
Many of my blog posts are lyrics and devotions that I've already written, so most of my time is spent deciding what I should post, rather than writing. Often I notice a theme running through other blogs that I read, and I'll post on a similar topic, but sometimes, the Lord just puts something on my heart, and I know that's what I should post. Those posts take a little longer than the copy and paste ones! I also like to have a picture to go with my post, so that can be time consuming...finding just the right one.
Do you write for any other websites?
I have a second blog, that I also started on a whim. It's called Manitoba Gardens. My original intention was to showcase gardens from all over Manitoba, but right now it mainly features my parents' garden, which is one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever seen. I may eventually include other gardens, but if it remains a tribute to my Mom and Dad, that would be okay too.
What other accomplishments or hobbies do you have outside of blogging?
Outside of blogging, and raising my family for the Lord, I'd have to say that my biggest accomplishment would be the writing and self publishing of my devotional book, "Stepping Stones Along My Journey," as well as having written over one hundred songs, many of which have been recorded. It took me many years to begin to use the gifts that the Lord has given me, and I pray that He can take what I have to offer and use it for His glory, to encourage the brethren, and to reach lost souls….for only He is able.
What struggles do you face, if any, in keeping your blog up?
Now that our Manitoba Summer has arrived, my biggest struggle is not having enough hours in the day to do all that I want and need to do! We have two acres and, of course, lots of flower beds that seem to have more dandelions this year than I've ever seen! I'm also finding that since I've been blogging, I'm spending so much time reading other blogs that I'm not doing as much writing. So it's not so much a problem keeping my blog up, as my blog interfering with my regular life. I'm realizing that I need to focus on finding a balance that works!
Can you point us to a few of your favorite blogs?
Picking just a few favorite blogs is so difficult, because I've met so many wonderful ladies. But since I must, I will say:
Hope, from Watering wells of Hope. This blog is such an amazing testimony of God's love and grace giving someone strength through an extremely difficult trial. I look forward to the day 'Hope' puts her story into a book!
Deby, from Apples of Gold. Deby has been such a blessing and I'm so thankful to have become her friend through blogging.
Connie from Connie's Thoughts From The Heart. Connie's posts are always an encouragement, even when they make me cry!
Is there a Bible verse that God has recently placed on your heart?
Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
My God has proved his goodness to me over and over again, and though I don't deserve to even sit at his feet, he has blessed me far beyond anything I could ever hope for!
Would you like to add anything in closing?
I'd like to thank you and CWO for the opportunity to share a little of my corner of the blogosphere. It is my hope and prayer that I can be an encouragement to all who stop by for a visit.

"Lorri Steer"
Lorri Steer has a gift for writing, speaking, and seeing God in refreshing Technicolor beauty . She spent years serving at Cornerstone Fellowship in Livermore, California as a heart group leader and Bible study teacher and leader. Now she has spent the past year holding God's hand walking through cancer. She and her husband Scott are parents to three daughters: Ellen (15), Emma (11) and Olivia (5). They moved from California last June to Longmont, Colorado and joined White Fields Community Church. Lorri looks forward to again teaching Bible study, speaking, and writing as her health allows. In the meantime, she delights in being a homemaker, a scrapbooker, and keeping a blog of her journey.
What is the title of, and where can we find your blog?
My blog is called Terrible and Beatiful: a daily blog on cancer, God and life.
What is the topic or topics that you find yourself writing about the most?
Well, like it says in the title, "Cancer, God and Life." When I sort my posts by subject though, the category that comes up the most is "blessings."
What or who prompted you to start blogging, and when did you start?
I started blogging in September 2007 when my battle with breast cancer started. We had just moved from California a few months prior and starting a blog was the best way for me to keep family and friends updated on my condition. I had wanted to start a blog just because we moved but cancer really caused me to get it started! I've found that my blog has become an integral part of my journey not only for my readers, but also for myself.
Are there any other women that you've connected with through blogging?
Yes, I have a few friends whose blogs I check daily. Some I know in person and others I know only online. Two of my favorites are Julie Parker whose family is just returning from a two year mission to Nigeria and a young woman named Korrine Croghan who is also fighting cancer. Julie and I met a few years back through a scrapbooking board and once in person when we had a trip to Nashville. I've grown so much just watching her family live out their faith in Africa. Korrine is a 14-year-old girl from our old community in California who is the friend of a friend. I love posting notes to her blog to encourage her and watching her live out her faith encourages me as well.
How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
My blog posts are generally off the top of my head and has to be typed quickly before the dog gets into the garbage can or the kids need a ride somewhere. But because I think about things for a long time, they give the appearance of being more thought out than they really are. Does that make sense? I guess I'll have to think about that...
Are there any other websites or blogs that you write for?
I faithfully try to post daily comments for Korrine and I've written some articles for newsletters. I can be googled. I do like to write but my blog is enough for me right now.
What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
Besides blogging, I love scrapbooking. Cancer has been an all consuming "hobby" these past months but the "old normal" me loved cooking, reading, and shaving the dog. My accomplishments post cancer (aka "the new normal) are things like growing hair and staying up past 7 pm.
What struggle if any have you experienced with keeping your blog up?
I love keeping my blog current and daily so sometimes it's a question of "what can I write about today?" I loved the new feature blogger added to post-date posts so that even when we were on vacation last week, my readers still had daily posts to see. I did a devotional series called "Psalm 34 One Bite at a Time."
What are some of your favorite blogs?
Like I mentioned before, The Parker family
and Korrine Croghan
Can you leave us with a Bible verse that God has placed on your heart?
The verse on my heart right now is Zephaniah 3:17: "The Lord your God is with you. He is might to save. He will take great delight in you. He will quiet you with his love. He will rejoice over you with singing." I'm concentrating on this truth as I prepare to give my last year's testimony at a women's conference in a few weeks. (www.design4living.org ) It's meaningful to me because it explains how I have been able to gracefully go through this past year without fear. After many years of believing lies about God and myself, I can finally hear the truth of God delighting over me with a love song and it's so healing and liberating. He truly is with me and He is good and His love endures forever.
Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?

"Remember the Moments "
Alex is a 20-something-newlywed, Christ-follower type of girl. One of her greatest passions in life is to sing & glorify her Maker. A full time wife & office Secretary, she loves spending time chatting with her friends over a cup of coffee. Reading is a must & blogging gets very addictive. Everyday is a challenge to be more Christ-like. There are many struggles but she knows that "she can do all things through Christ, who gives her strength."
What is the title of, and where can we find your blog?
My blog is called Remember the Moments.
What is the topic or topics that you find yourself writing about the most?
My blog is a space where I feel I can write about almost anything. I do, however, tend to visit my favourite meme's: "Word-filled Wednesday" and "Thankful Thursday" so most of my entries center around God! I have also put a few recipes up that I think have worked well. Basically... just life!
What or who prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
What young girl doesn't like writing in her diary or journal? I started blogging in my early teens, mostly just to hear myself think! Since then, I realise that it can be used to encourage others, worship God & keep those of my friends that don't see me all the time, updated on my every day life.
Are there any other women that you've connected with through blogging?
I have my "regulars" that I love to visit! I love browsing random blogs - its a great way to find encouragement and to see that I'm not alone in most of the issues in life! There are so many ladies (and a few men) out there with some real pearls of wisdom!
How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
I am not one for random entries that talk about not much at all! I like to think about what it is I want to say, and then say it! Sometimes this holds me back from blogging as I feel like I sometimes can't/don't want to share what has been going on in my life (thus why I do a lot of meme's!)
Are there any other websites or blogs that you write for?
Not currently - could be something interesting to try!
What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
My greatest accomplishment is having Christ in my life, next would be getting married! I absolutely love singing; it is one of my great passions in life. To find a way to use this (besides singing in church) for Christ is one of my greatest ambitions. My favorite, all time thing to do is to curl up in bed with a book. I do a little bit of scrapbooking & crafty stuff, when I can find the time. I also help run a kids club, which has predominantly new African arrivals into Australia - it can be quite an experience!!
What struggle if any have you experienced with keeping your blog up?
As highlighted above, sometimes I have so much in my head that is going on but feel I am unable to share it, maybe for fear of judgement or people not understanding. There is also the issue of a hectic schedule that doesn't permit much time for computer, outside of work!
What are some of your favorite blogs?
I love:
South East Country Wife
Wifely Steps
And heaps more!
Can you leave us with a Bible verse that God has placed on your
heart?
A verse that I have always remembered from Hebrews 13:5b-6: "...be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"

"Rena Gunther"
Rena Gunther began her journey with Christ at the age of 8, nearly 31 years ago. She and her husband, Joe, recently celebrated their 10th Anniversary. She is mother to three daughters: Cammie (almost 18), Courtney (15), and Sophie (20 months--Sophie is a tubal-reversal baby). She is an aspiring writer who loves to read, loves the ocean and happens to have a knack for cleaning and organizing that is currently challenged on a daily basis as she juggles a home with teenagers and a toddler. She enjoys connecting with other Christian women and has a desire to see women grow together in the Word of God and achieve balance in the home. Her desire is to walk more intimately with Christ and allow Him to permeate her marriage, home and life.
What is the title of, and where can we find your blog?
It's called:
Insert Grace Here
What is the topic or topics that you find yourself writing about the most?
I write about finding God’s grace to help in daily life which- for me generally includes my family. I find it fascinating how God will use my own children in teaching me lessons as I strive to teach them. I love the encouragement that I receive from other women through their blogs. It’s my desire to have the Lord use me to give back encouragement. I feel that women today have such high demands on their time. I’d love to share ideas or advice on how to bring balance to our lives. Of course if writer’s block strikes, we women are full of random information. Random posts can be a humorous and entertaining way for the reader to take the edge off of a long day. It’s worked for me as I’ve read some very interesting randomness from other bloggers.
What or who prompted you to start blogging, and when did you start?
Nearly a year ago, my good friend,
Laura, mentioned that perhaps I should consider starting a blog since I love to write. She mentioned a blog or two that she loved to read and I began checking them out. Right away I knew that I had to start one of my own. It was many months later, however, that I finally put myself out there. I started blogging this May after Laura opened her blog.
Are there any other women that you've connected with through blogging?
I’m just starting to build connections. I’ve had contact through email with a couple of women and hope to get to know them as well as many of the other women I’m meeting.
How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
At times I’ve had topics just come to me. Sometimes the Lord will stir something inside me that may take a little more time to write as I wait and listen for His voice. Of course, my children are very instrumental in providing material almost daily.
Are there any other websites or blogs that you write for?
My sister, Ginger, recently started her blog. We both plan to write occasionally for each other. We’ve also discussed writing together in the future about topics that are near to both of us. We may consider writing on growing up as sisters and what we have learned.
What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
I love to write and hope to be published before--well, before I turn 40 would be nice. I love to cook, clean and organize. I love spending time with my husband and children. I love growing together with my Christian friends and just having girls’ night out. I enjoy watching movies snuggled up to my husband, I think the ocean is one of the most beautiful works of God- I love all things beach-y and I love sunflowers. I love laughing…it’s good medicine! And I love Jesus!
What struggle if any have you experienced with keeping your blog up?
I found it a bit difficult at first to set up. I was so eager to post, but overwhelmed with some of the technicalities. My friend, Laura, came to my rescue. Making time to post can be a little challenging. Life can be so hectic. It takes a lot of effort to stay focused but it’s definitely worth it. When I have an idea or the Lord places something on my heart to post, I try to write and save it to edit and then publish later.

These are my favorites! I read more…but I “tried” to keep it to a few.
Can you leave us with a Bible verse that God has placed on your
heart?
There are so many favorites! Proverbs 3:5-6 will always be one as I learned these Scriptures the day I got saved. But I’ll leave this one…
This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is they faithfulness. Lamentations3: 21-23
Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
I’d just like to say that I’m so thankful for the CWO website and blog. I believe that blogging is an instrumental way for the Lord to use us as women reaching out to women. We need each other!
