"Heather"

Married to her best friend for 13 years, Heather is the mom of a bright 8 year old son she has homeschooled for three years. She has lived around the Memphis, Tennessee area all her life and loves living in the South. Except for the humidity.

Heather graduated from college with a major in Home Economics - Emphasis in Interior Design, and enjoys making her home a warm, welcoming place for friends and family. She loves spending time with her girlfriends as well as her family, and always enjoys a night of just playing games and laughing too hard. She is also much too fond of Diet Coke.

Heather, how did you go about naming your blog, and where can we find it?
During the time I was considering starting a blog I was reading the book TrueFaced by Bill Thrall, Bruce McNicol, and John Lynch. One of passages in the book struck me and has stayed with me ever since. John Lynch explains that a caterpillar and a butterfly have the same DNA. When the caterpillar matures into the butterfly, it doesn’t change its DNA…it had always been a butterfly, no matter how much it didn’t look like a butterfly! It’s the same with us as Christ followers. Once we have Him in our hearts, we become righteous. No amount of striving can make us any more His child than we already are.

I wanted something to remind me of who I am in Christ to be the title of my blog, something with the caterpillar/butterfly connection. Thinking about DNA, what’s in DNA, what we call it, etc, etc, I came up with the word genes. "Butterfly Genes!" Ah, that’s it! You can find me at:
butterflygenes.blogspot.com.

What topics do you find yourself writing about most often?
I really have a hodge podge of topics. Some are serious and insightful, some are completely silly. I do talk about crafting and cooking some, and I also have a weekly post on how wonderful my husband is.

What prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
My best girlfriend, Kat, mentioned in passing one day that I should start a blog. We had been laughing at something we had read on Pioneer Woman’s blog, and she said, “You should start one of those. You’d be good at it.” I had actually been thinking about it before then; I would have a totally random thought and wish I had someone to tell right then! I figured that if I had a blog I could put my random thoughts down for others to read. So, on April 14, 2008, I began Butterfly Genes.

How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
It depends on what I’m writing about. If it’s something silly, not really that much time, maybe 30 minutes or so. And recipes or craft posts don’t take that much thought, just a lot of pictures, which does take a little while to do. When I’m insightful and want to really convey my thoughts properly, I will edit, edit, and re-edit! Those are usually the ones that take the longest, some days.

What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
As far as hobbies, I am currently addicted to reading Jane Austen novels. I love reading blogs and watching birds, too. And of course crafting to make my house a warm place to be.

I am the alto section leader for our church’s Worship Team. We are currently rehearsing for our CD that will be recorded soon. It’s a very exciting time for us as a Worship Team. I absolutely love what I do! I have grown so much over the past year as a result of being asked to help lead the choir. There have been a few struggles, as with any leadership position, but the joys and feelings of accomplishment far outweigh any hardships I face. I can’t wait to see what God does with our Worship Team in the future!

What struggle, if any, have you experienced with keeping your blog updated?
When I first started the blog I felt like I had so much to say I’d never skip a day... I now realize that’s not very practical. I do have a home to keep up, a son to educate (although during the summer it’s been easier), laundry to do, and all that comes with being a stay-at-home mom. I felt pressured at first to post something every single day, but now I realize that I’m not on any timetable and can post when I really have something to say. That takes pressure off of me and I can enjoy when I do post, usually every other day or so.

What are some of your favorite blogs?
The ones I do not skip a day reading (or at least try not to) are:

Nesting Place, A Soft Place to Land, and Shack on the Rocks, but there are MANY more on my blog roll!

What Bible verse has God recently placed on your heart?
The verse that’s on the top of my page is 2 Corinthians 3:18:

"And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."

We are being transformed. It doesn’t say “when we do enough working on it.” Grace is such a powerful thing.

Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
I have “met” so many beautiful women through blogging. My husband calls us “kindred spirits,” and I have to agree. Almost daily I’ll read a post or a comment they’ve left for me that just makes me think. They make me want to be more like Jesus. How can I not love them? I’m so grateful the Lord has allowed me to be a part of this. He has given me new friends, has allowed me a venting spot for all my random thoughts (and there are many!), and has deepened my love of writing. How sweet He is to His daughters!

"Cherise Bopape"

Cherise Bopape is an author, Sunday school teacher, freelance writer, and an assistant coordinator for a ministry that serves single mothers. However, her roles as wife and mother bring her the greatest satisfaction. When she’s not playing Memory, Dominoes, Scrabble, or Monopoly with her brood, she’s providing therapeutic laughter, inspiration, and hope to other women.

Cherise has written for a Sunday school take-home paper. She’s also contributed to the anthology, How I Met My True Love: Inspiring Real-Life Stories of How God Unites Soul Mates. Her latest accomplishment includes authoring her first book, Lessons from the Littlest: A Devotional for Mothers of Young Children. Her mission is to build up women by equipping them with the tools necessary to live in obedience, act in confidence, and walk by faith—despite earthly circumstances.

Cherise, how did you go about naming your blog, and where can we find it?
After much deliberation, I decided on Single Moms’ Care Package. I know that single mothers sometimes need extra jolts of inspiration. Thus, I created a virtual care package—inspirational, encouraging blog entries—with single mothers’ unique circumstances in mind. Single mothers will find that my posts are bundled with inspiring words, packed with tidbits of biblical insight, and delivered with love from a mom who has “been there.”

What do you find yourself writing about most often?
I particularly write for mothers of elementary and middle schoolers. Using a mixture of humor, sobering experiences, and simple slice-of-life vignettes, I explain tough biblical lessons, applying them to the everyday experiences of mothers with young children. I occasionally address issues associated with work-life balance as well.

What prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
I began blogging in February 2008, to reach more women with God’s message of hope and encouragement. Through a previous, abusive marriage, a season of single motherhood, and a tumultuous time balancing work and family, I gained valuable life lessons that I enjoy sharing with others.

How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
Before I post an entry, I spend an hour (or more) writing, editing, and researching (confirming links, checking Scripture, etc…) I don’t focus on the quantity of posts so much as their quality, accuracy, and potential effect on other women. I don’t write to fill a personal goal or self-imposed quota. However, I’m glad the Lord keeps giving me topics often so that my site remains fresh.

What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
I enjoy laughing hysterically, listening to gospel music, engrossing myself in Bible study, cooking (and eating) soul food, and playing games with my family.

Writing is therapeutic to me. Before quitting my career in IT, writing was actually my hobby. Now, that it’s my career, I’m much happier, peaceful, and overflowing with thanksgiving.

What struggle have you experienced with keeping your blog updated?
I usually have more ideas and life experiences to share than the time required to get them all documented. Journaling helps me to keep ideas handy.

Do you have any favorite blogs?
I’m not in the habit of “blog hopping.” With three kids home for summer break, I run a tight schedule. As a result, online surfing doesn’t regularly make my list of to-dos. However, in the event I have a few minutes of downtime, I enjoy, Empowering Everyday Women Blogspot. The topics are timely, down-to-earth, and inspirational.

What Bible verse has God recently placed on your heart?
Please, allow me to share two verses that have had a powerful effect on me lately.

Psalm 90:17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands. (NIV)

I have a plethora of ideas for ministries, magazine articles, and service projects geared toward women who are enduring stressful circumstances. If I tried to implement them all at once I’d experience chaos. So, I frequently ask God for His help in prioritizing my day and removing extraneous activities that aren’t in His immediate plans for me. I want the work of my hands to be established by Him and not fueled by my own ego. I seek confirmation from the Lord and expect Him to answer in a mighty way.

Proverbs 3:5, 6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (NIV)

When things are topsy-turvy or simply just don’t make since in the natural, I’ve learned to trust God. (Oftentimes, our heavenly Father’s foresight is revealed to His children as hindsight.) In the meantime, I do what I can in my own (natural) strength and rely on Him to empower and equip me for everything else.

Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
I’d like to leave a few words of reassurance for frazzled moms with young kids—sisters, things will get better. Mothers with kids in elementary or middle school are definitely in seasons of service. If that’s also coupled with a season of single motherhood, things could be even more trying. However, as our children mature, they develop their own independence. Gradually, we regain small segments of our time.

Remember, as Christian women, we have a helper—the Holy Spirit. Let’s unleash His indwelling power. When we do, there’s not a poop-filled diaper, broken glass, or puddle of spilled milk that can steal our praise, hinder our thanksgiving, or stop us from serving with a smile.

"Natalie"

If waxy chocolate donuts were a food group, Natalie would be the first to make them part of every meal. But, since they aren’t, she’ll keep her head about her and “feast” on what truly is important—the Word of God.

This is the heartbeat of Natalie: the truth taught to others with love and sprinkled with laughter. There is no greater life than one walked with Christ and Natalie enjoys walking it with others.

She is a mom of three and a wife of one. She’s a friend, mentor, movie lover and is convinced that when ever a lazy thunderstorm rolls in, that God ordered it just for her.

Natalie graduated college with a music degree that served her for a time, but soon God revealed that the spiritual gifts He had given her were in writing and teaching. What a journey that has brought! She loves teaching the Word, not just in person, but through the great World Wide Web. It’s an honor and a joy for Natalie to use the gifts God has given her at both of her blogs!

Natalie, how did you go about naming your blog?
The name of "I AM (not)" actually came from watching a Louis Giglio video that rocked my socks off. It was the story of Moses when God told him that his name is I AM. Basically, because of that I was reminded, as I am daily, that God is the Great I AM and, well, I’m not.

What do you find yourself writing about most often?
My personal blog is just that, lots of personal, random stuff. Some days I’ll get serious, but mostly I love encouraging people, making them laugh, and for their viewing pleasure, I’ll toss in a homemade video or too. "Stiletto Army" is a Bible study I do. It varies in topics and studies.

What prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
I can’t actually remember why I started blogging. I think because I thought it would be a great outlet since I’m a stay at home mom. I started April of 07, but started posting daily around January of 08

How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
For "I AM (not)" it’s pretty much off the top of my head, you know, what ever is going on. "Stiletto Army" takes quite a bit more time, as it should.

What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
I love to read and hang with my hubs. I’m homeschooling three kids. Well, one is 7 months old, so she isn’t doing anything yet! I love hanging out with my friends and love my church. I also wrote a book last year called “The Devil in Your Garden: Finding Victory Over Shame.”

What struggle have you experienced with keeping your blog updated?
For "I AM (not)" I find it pretty easy to keep it updated. People love random stuff that’s interesting and fun. They like peering into others lives. I have to spend a lot of time in prayer for "Stiletto Army." That one can be difficult if I try to do it off the cuff. Keeping it updated requires lot of planning.

What are some of your favorite blogs?
Kim Heinecke, Ministry So Fabulous, It’s Almost Naptime, One Thing, and a whole bunch more!

What Bible verse has God recently placed on your heart? “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans12: 2b

Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
Sure, come on over and let’s chat a bit! I’d love to meet you in cyberland!

Natalie would love it if you’d visit her

"Crystal Schwartz"

Crystal Schwartz was born and raised by missionary parents in Alaska.  She now lives and works alongside her husband at Solid Rock Bible Camp, the same youth camp she grew up at. She has been married to her husband, Craig, for eight years. She has five beautiful children, and is a reluctant (but now learning to love it) farm wife.

They are currently working on their second adoption from Ethiopia. She has spent much of her life in mission work including short term trips to Thailand, Tanzania, Kenya, and Haiti. Crystal has currently set aside most work outside the home to focus on home schooling her little ones and helping her husband in his outreach. It is a joy for her to be able to accompany him on many of his outreach trips around Alaska.

How did you go about naming your blog, and where can we find it?
I named my blog after our farm: Spruce Amba Farm. We have a large spruce tree beside our barn and it seemed fitting.  Amba means ‘where children play’ in Amharic; the language of Ethiopia.

What do you find yourself writing about most often?
I am not much of a writer and never have been.  When I first started my blog it was mostly pictures of the kids with one or two paragraph updates about us. After a month or two I realized that it really did not matter that I am not a gifted writer and can’t spell worth a hoot. Friends and family were interested in what we are doing up here in Alaska, so I started writing a lot more. Now I mostly write about my three most consuming passions; my family, our mission work, and African adoption.

What prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
After our first adoption I got very involved in the online adoption community. Many people had links to their blogs from the forums. For a few months I read other people’s, and then it occurred to me that Craig’s family (who live in Indiana) would really love to see pictures of the kids and get more regular updates (like some). So in February 2008 I started my blog mostly for them. It has evolved now as a lot of people involved in adoption have found my site and contacted me, as well as people interested in our mission work.

How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
It really depends. When I am posting an update about the kids, it is just a few pictures and a paragraph or two, but when I write about adoption issues or our mission work I have to think a little more--thoroughly check my recourses and be sure to respect the privacy of the people we minister to.  I would say I spend between 5 minutes and 1 hour on each post.

What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
I have always loved art. Once upon a time I was pretty good at Ballet. I still do love to dance and I have won several awards for my paintings. I really enjoy running and I am leaning to enjoy farming. Before I had kids I traveled a lot.  I have been to 49 states and 14 countries. I am hoping to be able to travel to Ethiopia in the next few months, to pick up our newest little one. I have been educating myself on adoption law, specifically the legal system of several of the African countries that are just opening to International adoption.

What struggle, if any, have you experienced with keeping your blog updated?
My biggest struggle is that I have so many good ideas about making it very artistic and unique that I sometimes lose track of time.  When the kids are sick or I am having a particularly rough or lonely week sometimes I don’t want to write for fear that I may sound whiny.

What are some of your favorite blogs?
Oh boy, Oh boy, my favorite blogs!  I read a lot of adoption blogs to keep up with people’s journeys.  I also have found a few blogs about home schooling helpful. I have a pretty short blogroll on my sight because the blogs I enjoy the most are the simple ones of people I have connected with and have an ongoing relationships with.  I do visit many blogs but the ones I find myself going back to are the ones about the everyday normal lives of mothers trying to serve Christ.
http://bringbabyhome.blogspot.com/
http://www.melzmidnightbrew.com/
http://fullhousehandshearts.typepad.com/
are some blogs I have been visiting regularly lately.

What Bible verse has God recently placed on your heart?
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
- John 14:18

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.  God sets the lonely in families: he leads forth the prisoners with singing…  Psalm 68:5-6

I love these verses. I think they give a very intimate look into the heart of God, and what He cares about. The least in this world: The lonely, the orphans, and widows, the prisoners and those with no one to defend them.  As a Christian I am called to show Christ’s love on earth. I think that if we are not sure where to start we can take a look at God’s Word and learn from His example.

Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
Don’t be afraid to give blogging a try. You may not think your life is worth blogging about, or that your skills are good enough, but every one has something to share. And blogger has a pretty good spell checker. It has been really rewarding for me to push past my fear and connect with other women who have similar interests.

"Ginger Wade"

Ginger Wade is the wife of Jerry and mother of two boys Gordon and Jordon. She is a home-school mom who loves to encourage the lives of others while growing in the Lord together. She has a heart for ministry and hopes to raise two strong men who will rear their families in the direction of the Lord. Her ultimate desire is to impart His love and compassion as she has so graciously received. “Therefore I tell you, her sins, many [as they are], are forgiven her—because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little.” (Luke 7:47)

How did you go about naming your blog, and where can we find it?
The title of my blog is Here’s My Cup Lord.

Inspired by the teachings of Beth Moore (and my love for coffee of course) the title of my blog is to say, Here’s my cup, Lord, my life, fill me so that I may pour into the lives of others as you see fit, or you might find it better said as in my original post: “Here’s My Cup Lord…” As He fills me with new hope and overflow, allowing ME to pour into the lives of others, may this blog serve as refreshing Hazelnut Vanilla Caramel with visits from the morning sun.

What do you find yourself writing about most often?
I simply journal my thoughts and His Word, sometimes more serious than others, while inserting a little yaya (silly talk) here and there. After all, we are women, and this is our outlet where we sit at His table and His java is FREE!

What prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
My sister Rena, and my husband Jerry, who have both encouraged me along the way. My husband first set up my blog on our personal server (May 9th, 2008—my mother’s 61st birthday) while we moved on to wordpress shortly thereafter. Hopefully with a growing audience this blog will serve as forum for a greater purpose, like a book club among Godly women who wish to share and lead others to Him through their experiences.

Ginger, I wanted to add that I have received a few letters from Jerry directed to CWO, and it's not hard to see what a great supporter, and great guy in general, he is. What a blessing you have in both your husband and your sister! Praise God.

How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
Honestly, that depends on the post and its content. There are times when things are more immediate, while others require more thought and detail.

What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
My greatest accomplishment is my family! My husband, my boys, and all that we are and aspire to become. Shopping and shoes sound great too! (Although, I’d much rather just have Rena as my personal shopper.) I also love to read, and my husband and I both love to cook. Yes, I am one of those Food Network fans; I am learning a lot, and love to pass along recipes. I have a special page dedicated to both these interest listed on my site. Sometimes my husband may be the one frying up the chicken and I’ll be the one serving pasta, pasta, and more pasta! (Can you tell I love Italian?)

What struggle, if any, have you experienced with keeping your blog updated?
There are times when the words seem to flow while there are others where I struggle with what I want to say, or how I want to say it. I do not wish to shelve my thoughts; I hope that my words will serve in way that brings others closer to Him. Otherwise, they’re just words, and it’s obvious we all have a lot to say. Then, there’s the balance with how much time I spend on this thing! :)

What are some of your favorite blogs?
Insert Grace Here (MYYYY Sister!!)

I’m a Believer (The leader of the pack. Our bloggy guru, a true a believer, who ministers His word to the full. You’ll never leave her blog hungry!)

We are THAT Family (Simply Fro’ Me to You is getting us out there!)

The LPM Blog (Duh… Beth Moore!)

What Bible verse has God recently placed on your heart?
I’ve been sticking close to a devotion my boys and I share with verses from Ps. to Zech. as well as Eph. These verses were originally submitted by Kenneth Copeland Ministries at a time in my life when they were greatly needed. As a whole, we have stood on Zech 9:11-12 which reads: As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water. Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even today do I declare that I will render double unto thee…!

Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
In closing, I would like to say thank you for featuring my blog, as well as my sister’s and others. I hope you and every reader will be blessed while He receives the glory.

Maybe others will be prompted to leave a comment, or send an email along the way, as we travel the path of His will. I have learned so much from the women who’ve inspired my life; hopefully, I can return the same here. My message is found through my mistakes—knowing He is faithful to receive me at His Mercy Seat and give me the strength to stand with others.

"Tiffanie Lloyd"

Born again and into the family of God the day before her twenty-fourth birthday, Tiffanie Lloyd can testify to the new life our Lord Jesus Christ has to offer. As human as they get, she is no stranger to sin, but she knows quite intimately of God's love and saving grace. She has been blessed abundantly by her Savior and shares a life with a wonderful husband and three precious sons (with their newest addition due in September). She is a stay at home turned work at home small business owner who also homeschools.

How did you go about naming your blog, and where can we find it?
I named my blog "Our Life" because, well, that's what I write about, our life. You can step into Our Life by going to ourlloydlife.blogspot.com. I also maintain a blog called My Kids Blog at mykids-blog.blogspot.com, which is a resource for parents where kid and parenting related topics are covered.

What do you find yourself writing about most often?
Currently, I blog a lot about this pregnancy (I hope my readers aren't getting tired of that, but it is what my life consists of right now). I also write about homeschooling, being a small business owner, and all the fun (and maybe not so fun) adventures of being mamma to three boys. Pretty much, I blog about whatever God is doing in my life at the moment. It might be a some long explanation about why we homeschool, a short and sweet Bible verse that God has laid on my heart or a post consisting of mainly random ramblings, but hey... that's life.

What prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
I used to blog some time ago simply to keep family and friends updated with pictures and milestones of the kids, but I got away from that. Recently (just the beginning of July, actually) I launched my blogs simultaneously with my website. Blogging was supposed to be merely a means to once again update family and friends as well as a resource for networking and getting a little business exposure, but God had other intentions and it has turned into so much more.

I love the blogging community. I enjoy learning from others and sharing thoughts and ideas. I enjoy writing for my blog and others. I enjoy sharing parenting tips and truths that I've picked up along the way, and hope that I might be helping to make someone else's job a little bit easier or more manageable. And God has been revealing himself to me, I know, of all places, through the blogesphere. I'm learning more about myself through blogging and I am challenged daily to be more and more like Christ; whether by something He prompts me to write (or think about), or by a devotional or a story I stumble upon in someone else's blog.

How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
It varies. Sometimes life simply provides an easy post, something hilarious or some great insight and I can't seem to type fast enough. Other times it might be a defining lesson in life that requires much thought, consideration and prayer before I type it out. Usually though, it may have just come to me, or I might have been mulling it over all afternoon, but by the time I sit down in front of my computer, I've pretty much figured out what I'm going to say.

What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
Homeschooling. That's a big one. And, my business. I also sing at church, scrapbook, write, and I am the volunteer Area Director of Cedar Rapids Young Life - a position that really shaped and developed my passion for helping (or at least attempting to) other parents in their parenting adventures.

What struggle, if any, have you experienced with keeping your blog updated?
I've not struggled thus far to keep it updated. However, I struggle to avoid spending too much time roaming the blogesphere. I'm one of those jump into it full force kinda gals and I'm still trying to buckle down a good blogging schedule that doesn't involve too many late nights.

I hear ya! :) So, what are some of your favorite blogs?
I really enjoy reading the devos over at Faith Lifts. It's the first blog I visit every morning. And then there's Fried Okra... she always makes me laugh. And I have a couple of local blogging friends who I regularly check in with (you can find them in my blog roll).

What Bible verse has God recently placed on your heart?
My women's Bible study is currently going through First Peter and I recently memorized 1 Peter 1:3, which really speaks to me as I reflect on my past and think about the future. God is so good and I have so much to praise Him for. Through the death of Jesus, I have been given new birth... This baby I am bearing has hope for new birth. To read a bit more about my story you can check out this post.

Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
Blogging has opened new avenues for my writing, which has been really exciting. I just hope and pray that through my work, wherever it may be, that God would always be glorified. I want to spread and share the new life He has to offer, and writing can be a powerful way in doing so.

"Patty Wysong"

Patty Wysong was privileged to live in Ecuador, South America, during her junior high and high school years while her parents were missionaries there. She attended the Alliance Academy, a boarding school for missionary kids, and graduated from high school there. After two years at Moody Bible Institute, she received the degree she was seeking: her Mrs degree. Patty and her husband have been married for 19 years and have five children whom they homeschool.

When Patty isn't busy with her husband and children, she can be found in front of her computer writing, and even when she is busy, she can still be found there, squeezing in a few words here and there. She enjoys writing fiction and devotionals that stem from every day happenings in her life.

How did you go about naming your blog, and where can we find it?
When I started my blog I really didn't know what I was doing but I didn't want just 'Patty's Blog' so I went for a play on words. Patterings came to be, but from there it's developed into what it is today with my verse and tag line—it was a God-thing that came together as I worked on it and prayed over it. You can find Patterings at:
pattywysong.blogspot.com

What do you find yourself writing about most often?
For the most part I write how God has grabbed my attention and turned it into a teaching moment for me—the lessons He's taught me as I run through my day. On Fridays I post short fiction pieces (I started "Fiction Fridays" since many of my friends also write fiction, and it's open to ANYone who writes or reads fiction—so please, come join us!)

What prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
When my nephew went to Afghanistan, my sister got our family blogging (2006) so he could stay at least a little connected. From there I tried another blog before settling on my Patterings site. Once I finally got the settings figured out on Blogger, (which took a year of frustration because I'm NOT a techie!) I decided I really needed to get serious about blogging, and in February I truly launched Patterings. I knew it was the next step I needed to take, and I stepped in faith. It's been a wonderful journey so far!

How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
Sometimes a lot of thought goes into a blog post, but other times I'm able to sit down and 'pound it out' quickly—but even then the post has spoken to me before I post it.

What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
LoL--Does being a homeschool mom count?
I love writing fiction and I've been published on-line several times and have 3-5 stories that will be included in up-coming (print) anthologies. I participate in Faithwriters.com's Free Reprint service and most of my devotionals eventually end up there. I'm also a co-teacher in our church's children ministry, and I've grown to love it.

What struggle, if any, have you experienced with keeping your blog updated?
Time! Between being a wife, mom and homeschooling our crew, and doing the bookkeeping for our business, my time is pretty tight. I've learned better time management disciplines that help me in that constant time struggle, but it still boils down to time and self-discipline.

What are some of your favorite blogs?
LauraLee's Lifesong
Exemplify
An Open Book

What Bible verse has God recently placed on your heart?
"The Lord turned to him and said, 'Go in the strength you have...Am I not sending you?" - Judges 6:14

Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
When you feel God leading you in a direction, follow Him—even if you don't understand the why or even the how of it! Step out in faith and obey Him—your journey may lead you in a completely different direction than you anticipated, but it will be more than worthwhile and fulfilling. This seems to have been the theme of my life this last year, and it's been my best year yet!

"LauraLee"

LauraLee is a wife of eighteen years and has recently gone from “stay-at-home mommy” to “taxi-kids-around-and-learn-to-text mom.” Formerly a wrestler of toddlers, she is now a juggler of priorities. In her spare time, she is a ministry leader and kids’ worship leader, as well as a freelance writer/author. Her heart’s passion is to minister to the Christian family and seekers of such, inspiring them to keep their lives in tune with Jesus Christ.

What is the title of, and where can we find your blog?
My blog is entitled LauraLee’s Lifesong, and it can be found at: lovinthearts.blogspot.com

What is the topic or topics that you find yourself writing about the most?
Most of the time, I find myself reflecting on slices of life--whether somber, serious, sappy or celebrative—and applying them to what God is teaching me as His daughter. In doing so, I hope to strike a chord in my readers, pointing them to Christ.

What or who prompted you to start blogging, and when did you start?
I started a website a couple of years ago, but I’m fairly new to the blogging world. About four months back, I was reading a writing periodical about how important blogging was to writing success. So I did some research, and sure enough, many writers and publishers seemed to back that opinion. So I bit the blogger bullet. Even though it started as a tool to expand my reading audience, it has now become something much different than that. If someone were to ask me why she should start blogging, I would tell her that she will grow spiritually and talent-wise as a result—not to mention, make a bunch of new friends along the way.

Are there any other women that you've connected with through blogging? If so, tell us about how you met some of them.
Well, I had a group of writing friends from Faithwriters.com that began to blog regularly around the same time, and we have only become closer in the process. I’ve also connected with some incredible new women that I admire, enjoy and grow spiritually from knowing. A few that come to mind are Kristen at Exemplify, Kim at Homesteader in Training and some women through the Titus 2 Blogroll and At the Well meme, women like Lori and Natalie and Chelsey.

How much thought and time do you generally put into each post?
I could be wrong, but I’m guessin’ my answer isn’t far different from other bloggers. Sometimes, the words just flow. Other times, they march quite deliberately. Often, though, I tweek and make sure every word has a purpose on the page and re-read it out loud until it conveys just what I want it to say and smoothly. When a post feels fragmented or too “from my flesh,” I hold onto it indefinitely until I’m sure it is just how God would want me to say it. To me, the Word of God should not be handled recklessly or irreverently, so that is my priority.

Are there any other websites or blogs that you write for?
My own ministry website has been up and running for awhile now. It is lovinthearts.com. I have better plans for it, but my HUB-master, eh hem, web-master is a bit behind on it. (smile, wink). So then...I don’t contribute to any group blogs, but I participate in several different memes sponsored by others: Fiction Fridays at Patterings, At the Well at Joyfully Living and Monday Manna at Exemplify. About twice a month, I participate in the Writing Challenge at Faithwriters.com, which is not only incredible fun, but also stretches me as a writer. In the near future, I also hope to start a blog with all of my drama sketches, comedies and plays on it. When the time is right, I shall. Until then, “Lovinthearts Drama Parts” will stay behind the curtain sipping a cup of java backstage.

What are some of your hobbies or accomplishments outside of blogging?
I’m so glad you asked this question, because so many people online only know me as LauraLee the writer (my pen name, by the way). I have a HUGE heart for kids, and I show that by leading kids’ worship and training other adults and teens to do the same. They know me as Mrs. Laura, and I love to hear them say my name, each in their individual way. I’ve been doing this for over eighteen years, and I love, Love, LOVE it.

Most of my hobbies and accomplishments circulate around my family and church ministry, but I’ve had a couple of spectacular happenings in the world of writing too. I am a contributing author to Women of Passions: Ordinary Women Serving an Extraordinary God (6 pieces), and just this month, I had an article featured in Just Between Us magazine (Fall 2008). I’ll also be contributing a piece which is a tribute to my mother in an upcoming book called Quilting Patches of Life, Volume 2 by Lori Wagner. These have been incredible opportunities to be used by God, and humbling to boot. The only other thing I’d like to mention is that I’m in the process of publishing a Christmas devotional book called The Twelve Stays of Christmas. I’m praying it will be out and ready for online ordering by October.

What struggle, if any, have you experienced with keeping your blog up?
It’s been relatively easy so far, but I haven’t been at it very long. Honestly, the techie things are what usually stress me out. When blogger isn’t working right, or when I can’t figure out how to do something the way I want it to, I have to take my “thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ.” I wish I knew more about html coding and such. I’ve learned a ton so far, though, so I’ll keep trekkin’ along and relying on the fruit of patience along the way.

What are some of your favorite blogs?
Ohhhhh, these questions make me bite my fingernails. All my favorite blogs are on my blog sidebar, does that count?

Can you leave us with a Bible verse that God has placed on your heart?
Just one Bible verse? I’ll just leave you with my life verse:

1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NIV): “The One who calls you is faithful, and HE will do it.” (emphasis mine).

Whatever it is you believe He has called you to do, whether in word or in deed, remember He is the One who can do that through you. So if you have a hard time believin’ it, believe it. If your struggle is to try to do it on your own, stop, cuz it’s useless when it’s done in vain. That’s what that verse means to me.

Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
It’s funny to me that anyone would want to hear a word of what I have to write or say, but I can’t leave here without saying how much I appreciate Christian Women Online, and you, Darlene, for giving writers and leaders a place to share their hearts’ passions. You have tapped in to the value of the Body of Christ uniting in purpose and in Truth to honor God. I truly pray that LauraLee’s Lifesong is a beautiful sound in my Heavenly Daddy’s ears, and that my little voice is just a part of the larger choir singing His song, for His glory alone.

"Michelle: Dawning Light"

Michelle is a married, stay at home mom of three spirited little girls. She’s an avid blogger, reader, hiker, and “all about” things that involve summer and the outdoors. Michelle’s husband, Rob, is one of the Pastors at Granger Community Church. As a couple and family, their ongoing adventures take them from Indiana to India and every space in between.

How did you go about naming your blog, Dawning Light?
If you break down my first and middle name, "Michelle Dawn" the meaning is "A Godly woman of light." I believe God had my parents choose this name for me on purpose. God's purpose for me is to be a light shining for Him from my family to my neighborhood, to my community, and to the ends of the Earth.

What do you find yourself writing about most often?

  • Life as a pastor's wife…always an adventure. Never a dull moment.
  • Loving my husband and loving the ministry we have shared together for 16 years.
  • Raising three extremely fun and spirited girls.
  • Everything that's real and raw about me. I’m constantly on a huge learning curve. Pretty much everything on my blog is about my adventures in learning.

What prompted you to start blogging, and when did you launch your site?
I started blogging about a year ago. I have always been an avid journaler. When my second and third children were born, I quickly realized that whatever kind of journaling I would be doing would have to be quick. Blogging is a perfect way for me to get my thoughts about my world in an organized fashion. I seriously love blogging.

How much time do you generally put into writing each post?
There have been a few posts that have been next to agony for me to publish. The ones that involve the pain in ministry are the hardest ones to write. I want to be so sensitive to my husband, church, and the people I am writing about.
The day to day posts I write about our home life are usually no-brainers. What’s easiest for me to write about is usually what is funniest to everyone else. I’m not so sure I like that. I’d like to think people thought of me as a never ending fount of wisdom…(kidding).

What are some hobbies or accomplishments that you have outside of blogging?

  • Raising 3 girls means that their hobbies and accomplishments are mine for now.
  • Teaching and training women to go “Further Up and Further In” in their walks with God has always been a huge passion of mine.
  • Women and Children of the third world are constantly on my mind. I take as many trips to India with my husband as I can possibly manage. When I am in India or a third world country with these women, I feel fully alive.
  • I am a writer for the online magazine Blissfully Domestic www.blissfullydomestic.com.

What struggle, if any, have you had in keeping your blog updated?
Three extremely extroverted little girls that say things like, "Mom...Mom look at this....Mom, Mom, are you watching? Mom...are you listening?...Mom?”

What are some of your favorite blogs?
My husband's site
Amber Cox
Angie Qualey

Can you share a Bible verse that has God recently placed on your heart?
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything with thanksgiving, present your requests to God, and the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. - Philipians 4:6-7

Is there anything that you'd like to add in closing?
I love my husband. I love my kids. I love the church my husband is a pastor at. I love being a pastor’s wife, (although I mostly love it because of all the wrong reasons… like feverishly writing down all the silly things people say to our family before I forget, so I will have something to laugh about later). I know… that’s very bad. But… my blog is the real me. I really don’t hide much. I hope that people read my blog and find out what a fully devoted follower of Christ looks like.
